/ Characterics of materials for direct gravure /

As a matter of principle all types of polymers may be engraved in. The quality of the flexography printing form depends on physical and chemical material properties, mainly on density and hardness. (See the table for data.) Physical properties of the surface layer of sleeves as abrasion resistance, tearing strength, tearing resistance, elasticity and overall deformation pressure the producer evaluates with the degree "very good" and "good". The elasticity parameter by 054 and 789 materials is evaluated with the degree "fair".

The chemical resistance of all materials against alcohol (e.g. ethanol) and materials on a basis of esters and ketones is very good, respectively good. All materials also very well resist to water influence at 50°C as well as 95°C. Sleeves produced from all stated materials are not resistant against influence of oils and fats (e.g. mineral oil), gasoline and aromatic hydrocarbons as e.g. toluene, benzene and xylem. Against acids, particularly sulphuric and hydrochloric, and hydroxides (sodium hydroxide), are all materials well to very well resistant except for the 735 material which is not resistant against acids.

To very important properties of flexography sleeve under the trade description 054 belongs high abrasion resistance. The material may be engraved easily with help of laser, the rests after engraving are characterized by little stickiness and the produced flexography printing form transfers ink well. The material 735 is also very abrasion resistant and resists to solvents on the ester/ketone basis. The sleeve may be engraved easily and is characterized by an excellent ink transfer.
The advantage of the 789 material is also the possibility of high engraving speed. The material is ground and engraved well. The rests after laser processing have little stickiness. The printing form is characterized by a very good ink transfer.

The sleeve production technology is similar as the procedure by production of rubberized printing rollers. On the spindle a core is mounted on which the polymer layers are gradually wrapped.

The size of sleeves remains very different which signalizes that producers of flexography machines have not agreed on the for a long time proclaimed standardization of the report sizes yet. In Vyskov sleeves of a diameter from 80 mm up to a maximum of 350 mm are produced. The sleeve length is also 1.5 to 2 metres. We deliver the biggest sleeves to the customers in the whole Europe.
